Advice to DMK — Start with Gandhi, gradually move to Periyar, Ambedkar!
There is a backlash two days back when Mr. Udayanidhi Stalin proposed to destroy the very principle of Santana Dharma.
Yesterday, coincidentally, BJP proposed to destroy the very idea of ‘India’. Yes, they have been at it for years now, trying to inject an alternate idea of India -which is one country, one religion, one language. But today, they took the drastic step of renaming India into Bharat.
You see what’s the problem in both of these approaches? Be it Mr. Udayanidhi or Mr. Modi.
Making a country ‘exclusive’ of something. But India has always been inclusive. Many religions, many languages, many cultures, still distinctly united, That is our ‘India,’ which everyone, including Mr. Udayanidhi Stalin should understand.
Of course Uday is not wrong really when he mentioned about destroying something which he considers as a social evil.
But the people of north could not take what he just said.
How can a principle who is so intertwined with my sacred religion be destroyed? Surely, this guy is an enemy of my religion.
But did Uday really mean it? No, obviously. He was trying to get into the consequence of Santana Dharma and how it has for centuries illtreated and marginalized people.
But when he hinted about getting rid of the very principle that has helped preserve the age-old religion, that is when all hell broke loose.

Give that Mr. Modi has now responded to Uday’s speech, Going forward, the chief minister’s son and of course the discourses of other DMK leaders would be actively monitored for any ‘outrageous remarks’, which is a good thing, Because the whole of India is going to listen to you hereafter.
Now either Uday or his DMK thinktanks could stick to what they already do — that is
A. Criticize the consequences of the religion — Brahminic domination, suppression of scheduled castes.
B. Quote Periyar, Ambedkar’s ideals, and
C. End with the benefits of Dravidian model.
OR
They could do a small addition to their public oration — i.e., Adding Gandhi.
If they could somehow bring Gandhi and smoothly place him along with Periyar and Ambedkar, then the Dravidian model will be easily understood pan India.
Why do I say this? I will come to that shortly. But did you observe how the other parties of I.N.D.I.A react to Uday’s statement?
It obviously did put them in a precarious situation. They can’t fully agree with Mr. Uday. At the same time, they cannot disagree with his claims.
But really this is where I.N.D.I.A should act. And luckily this is where you have a father figure such as Gandhi — who is such an inclusive figure which we continue to forget.
I.N.D.I.A should begin to educate about the ‘model Hindu’ that Gandhi proposed and probably slowly bring upon Ambedkar's and Periyar’s teachings.
I would strongly suggest that The DMK ideologue should find ways to include Gandhi in its discourse.
If you give a toddler, 5th standard book, he is likely to not understand or worse start tearing the papers of it.
People up north should be first properly exposed to Gandhi again. In that way, you get these people come to the middle ground and then we can propagate the idea of self respect, equality that Mr. Uday or the Dravidian model inherently believes in.
Let me know if you agree with my ‘unpopular opinion’.
