How to digest Rajinikanth falling at the feet of Yogi Adhityanath.
First things first — let me be clear. I am not going to argue in favour of what Rajinikanth did.
What he did is intolerable for someone with Tamil-Dravidian sensibilities.
Obviously Rajinikanth did not consider these things when he fell at Yogi’s feet.
But why did he do that? This was the question that was lingering in me in the first place.
The obvious answer is he thinks Yogi is a Sanyasi/Saamiyar/holy man.
There is another old video circulating on social media where Rajini consciously advises his followers not to fall on anybody’s feet unless it is God or father or mother.
So unless Rajini thinks Yogi is a Godman, he could not have fallen at his feet.
But what is crudely infuriating is the fact that Yogi, apart from wearing sanyasi robes, is also a politician and a religious fundamentalist. Is he a rowdy? I am not sure, but he is definitely no innocent, holy man either.
So the possibile conclusion, Rajinikanth for all his stay in the state, could not understand how we see certain things. All these years, he did not imbibe a Tamil Dravidian sensibility.
Thanks, no thanks to the Hindutva/Brahminist groups that surround him. This group makes him oblivious to the sensibilities that Tamilians inherently possess.
I will give you another way to look at this.
Imagine a scenario where Dhoni, another idol that we ardently follow, decides to fall at the feet of a religious fundamentalist (This is an hypothetical scenario because Dhoni is not that ‘falling on that feet' guy)
We wouldn’t mock him this much, would we?
Because we know Thala Dhoni doesn’t live here. He doesn’t understand our politics. He is merely a cricketer, but nevertheless a symbol of victory, someone who teach us how to win, that’s it.
But we cannot see Rajini in the same way. Because superstar has never isolated himself from politics. He has always flirted with politics. He is a symbol of our culture, he is Tamilnadu’s identity.
If you are in such a position, how can you disregard your followers' sensibilities and fall at the feet of someone whom we always hate (we shouldn’t hate anybody, hate is a strong word) but having said that, tell us why would you do that?
Again the simplest answer is Rajini thinks Yogi is a real Yogi. We cannot possibly argue with his belief statement.
He has always been inclined towards Hindutva politics.
We just have to be glad that he opted out of politics altogether.
But one thing we can definitely do is to continuous mock him and make memes out of this, until it surpasses the Brahminist/Hindutva groups that surround him and reaches his eyes and ears.
May be in that way, we can help educate Rajinikanth our sensibilities.
On the other hand, shouldnt we try and understand the hindutva sensibility?
I tried bro. I am trying but I don’t know. I am all for Hindu sensibilities but Hindutva is a cooked up story. I cannot support lies and bigots.
